NEW YORK, April 19 (UPI) -- A Delta Boeing 757 bound for Los Angeles made an emergency landing in New York Thursday after an apparent bird strike, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

CNN correspondent Ali Velshi tweeted he was on Flight 1063 during the incident, saying, "Very big kudos to captin and crew of @Delta 1063 JKF-LAX for a quick turnaround & landing after bird strike & cabin filling with smoke."

The plane, carrying 172 passengers and seven crew members, made the emergency landing at JFK International Airport shortly after its 3:10 p.m. takeoff, WABC-TV, New York, said. No injuries were reported.
