Son arrested in baseball attack on family

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., April 16 (UPI) -- A 19-year-old Michigan youth was arrested Monday in a baseball bat attack that left his father dead and mother and a brother critically injured, police said.

Tucker Robert Cipriano of Farmington Hills, a suburb of Detroit, was taken into custody with an unidentified 20-year-old man, Farmington Hills police Sgt. Brian Bastianelli said.

The two are suspected in the death of Tucker's father, Robert Cipriano, age unavailable, who was body was found in the family's Farmington Hills home. Cipriano's wife Rose, age also unavailable, and one of their twin 17-year-old sons were listed in critical condition in Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, said David Mustonen, Dearborn Public Schools' district spokesman.

Police said the other 17-year-old son and an 8-year-old sister escaped unharmed, The Detroit News reported.

"He and his 8-year-old sister hid in the house, and they called for help," city police Chief Chuck Nebus said. "When officers arrived, the little girl unlocked and opened the front door and let them inside.

"All they knew was there had been an assault with a bat. No one was prepared for what they found inside."

Robert Cipriano was employed as the school district's director of business services, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The News said the 20-year-old suspect was arrested as he tried to run up stairs in the home. Tucker Cipriano was taken into custody miles away in Keego Harbor, where he was known to live at times, the newspaper said.
