Toe-typer's attacker gets 25 year sentence

ATLANTA, April 11 (UPI) -- A man who terrorized an Atlanta woman who then used her toes to type a message for help on a laptop was sent to prison for 25 years.

Dontavius Jackson, 19, was sentenced Tuesday in Fulton County Superior Court, The Atlanta Constitution-Journal reported.

On the night of Aug. 2, 2010, Jackson broke into the home of Amy Windom and forced her at gunpoint from room to room as he stole electronics, money and an ATM card, prosecutors said. He also took her 2009 Acura TSX.

Jackson then tied Windom to her bed with her shoe strings and left the house. However, he didn't take the woman's laptop, which was at the foot of the bed.

Windom managed to unlock the computer and get online to the 911.com Web site, using a toe to move the mouse and her other foot to type.

She also went on Google chat, found her boyfriend and typed "HELP. CALL 911," Windom said.

When police arrived, they found the front door and basement doors open and Windom in her bedroom, where she had been bound by her hands for more than 5 hours.

Jackson was arrested two days later after being captured on bank surveillance video in Windom's car and using her ATM card to withdraw money.

He was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, burglary, theft by taking, financial transaction card theft and identity fraud.

Because of his criminal past -- Jackson was twice convicted on felony burglary and theft charges -- prosecutors said he will not have the option of parole. He also was sentenced to five years of probation.
