Chicago pimp gets 50-year sentence

CHICAGO, April 6 (UPI) -- A Chicago man, Datqunn Sawyer, was sentenced to 50 years in prison for forcing women and underage girls to work as prostitutes on the city's West Side.

Sawyer was convicted last fall of sex-trafficking charges by a federal jury in Chicago.

Prosecutors said Sawyer targeted women and girls who were homeless, runaways or mentally ill. One girl was only 12, the Chicago Tribune reported Friday. Victims testified to physical and emotional abuse.

The Tribune said the sentence is believed to be the harshest ever given to a convicted sex-trafficker in Chicago federal court.
