Florida teen accused of killing mom

NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla., April 5 (UPI) -- Police say a 16-year-old Florida boy confessed to killing his mother, whose decomposing body was found in her bedroom Thursday.

Miami-Dade police said they had not determined how Renette Emile, 35, of the North Miami Beach area died, The Miami Herald reported.

Emile's boyfriend had called police Wednesday night after not hearing from her for several days, the newspaper said. Police went to the apartment Emile shared with her teenage son, Kit Darrant, and the 3-year-old son she had with the boyfriend to investigate and discovered the woman's body.

Darrant then allegedly told police he had killed his mother.

Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta said the teenager had friends over while the body was in the bedroom.

"The 3-year-old child was given to family members and Darrant was detained for questioning where he has confessed to killing his mother," he said.
