HARTFORD, Conn., April 5 (UPI) -- Over 8,000 Aetna health insurance customers in California were mistakenly told their doctors were dropped from its list of providers.
The one-page form letters from the Hartford, Conn.-based insurance company, informing customers they needed to find new health care providers because their current providers were no longer in Aetna's network as of March 1, were dated March 21. Recipients of the letters have been scrambling to confirm their health care is still in force, the Sacramento (Calif.) Bee reported Thursday.
"The letters were sent in error," said Anjie Coplin, Aetna's director of communications. "We have rectified the problem and are in the process of mailing out retraction letters."
She also said letters to the providers inadvertently left off Aetna's list are being notified of their continued eligibility.
Karen Finney, spokeswoman for UC Davis Health System said, "Patients were concerned about not being able to see their UC Davis physician. We told them they should continue to see their physicians as planned."
