Jury gives life sentence to killer nurse

LUFKIN, Texas, April 3 (UPI) -- A jury in Lufkin, Texas, sentenced a nurse to life in prison without parole for killing patients at a Texas dialysis center with bleach four years ago.

After she was sentenced Monday, Kimberly Saenz listened as relatives of her victims addressed her, with one relative saying, "I hope you burn in hell," The Lufkin Daily News reported.

"You are nothing more than a psychopathic serial killer," Wanda Hollingsworth, daughter of murder victim Thelma Metcalf, said. "I hope you burn in hell."

Saenz, 38, of Pollok, Texas, was convicted Friday of three of five counts of aggravated assault in the cases of five patients who survived having bleach run through their systems and one count of capital murder, meaning jurors believed she was directly responsible for the deaths of at least two patients who were among five others who didn't survive.

Saenz ignored requests for comment as she left the courthouse, the Daily News said, telling deputies, "I just want to get out of the camera's way."

Her husband, Kevin Saenz, said she would appeal.
