CENTENNIAL, Colo., April 3 (UPI) -- A former county sheriff in Colorado pleaded guilty Tuesday in a drugs-for-sex case, saying "there is no excuse for my behavior."

Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Patrick Sullivan, 69, who was arrested on charges he sought sex from a man in exchange for drugs during a sting operation in November, admitted to possession of methamphetamine and soliciting prostitution, The Denver Post reported. Other charges were dropped as part of the plea deal.

Sullivan was sent to jail for 38 days on each count, to be served simultaneously, was fined a total of $1,100 and will serve two years of probation, the newspaper said. He was given credit for eight days already served.

"I apologize to this court, this county and my family," Sullivan said before he was sentenced. "There is no excuse for my behavior."

Deputy Attorney General Michael Dougherty said in court Sullivan has admitted "he may very well have had sex with underage individuals."
