MEMPHIS, March 31 (UPI) -- A Tennessee woman could do some time in jail for getting her two children baptized without consulting her ex-husband.
A state appeals court ruled this week that Lauren Jarrell could be charged with criminal contempt for violating a parenting agreement, WREG-TV, Memphis, reported. She could face 10 days in jail if convicted.
Jarrell is a member of the Independent Presbyterian Church while her former husband, Blake, is a Methodist.
Both churches accept infant baptism but Blake Jarrell said he wanted to wait until his two children, 4 and 6, are older.
Her lawyer argues that including religion in the parenting agreement violated Lauren Jarrell's First Amendment rights.
Her hearing has not yet been scheduled.
