CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 28 (UPI) -- A passenger aboard a US Airways flight from Charlotte, N.C., to Fort Myers, Fla., was restrained after she attacked the flight crew, an airline employee said.

Other passengers on Flight 1697 Tuesday said the woman left her seat and attacked the flight crew, including spitting on them and knocking one attendant to the ground, WNCN-TV, Raleigh, N.C., reported. One flight attendant's arms were bruised and bandaged.

Police and emergency services personnel were waiting when the flight arrived in Fort Meyers, witnesses said. The woman was removed from the airport by police.

The flight crew said a Lee County Florida sheriff's deputy was on the flight and helped subdue the woman.

Attendants told WNCN the woman said she was scared of flying shortly before she became violent.
