WASHINGTON, March 27 (UPI) -- U.S. House Republicans Tuesday decided against voting on a 60-day extension of the federal highway programs, which are set to expire Saturday.
It was the second straight day legislation for a short-term extension was pulled in the face of opposition by Democrats, who are pushing for a $109 billion, two-year plan.

Republicans wanted the short-term extensions to give them time to craft a five-year bill, The Hill reported.
