DETROIT, March 27 (UPI) -- Two bodies found buried in Detroit have been identified as two young women from Hamtramck who vanished in late February, officials said.
A medical examiner said Monday Abreeya Brown, 18, and Ashley Conaway, 22, were both shot once in the head, the Detroit Free Press reported. Their fathers identified the bodies.
"Both were gagged and bound with duct tape," said Brooke Blackwell, a Wayne County spokeswoman. "Both were still clothed."
Police discovered the shallow grave Sunday afternoon after getting a tip about it.
Brandon Cain, 26, Conaway's former boyfriend, and Brian Lee, 24, have been charged with shooting at a car the two women were in on Feb. 8 and named as persons of interest in their kidnapping and now their deaths. Relatives say Conaway and Brown refused an offer of cash in exchange for their silence about the shooting.
Relatives attended a hearing Monday that was adjourned until Friday, The Detroit News reported.
"I am very glad we have the suspects in custody. Now we don't have to chase them down," Brown's mother, Lois, said.
