Dad seeks return of missing son

March 21, 2012 at 4:13 PM

BELLEVUE, Wash., March 21 (UPI) -- A Bellevue, Wash., man has been granted sole custody of his 5-year-old daughter, giving him the opportunity, he says, of searching for his missing son.

The granting of Solomon Metalwala's court request, and his recent divorce from his children's mother, Julia Biryukova, indicate he can concentrate on the return of his 2-year-old son Sky, who vanished in November under what police termed suspicious circumstances, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported Wednesday.

"All these, they were just stumble blocks, and took a lot of our time and energy away," he said. "We're going to regroup and focus on some things to find Sky."

The boy's mother claimed she left the child alone and in her stalled and unlocked car while she search for gas, and that he was gone when she returned, police reports said, but in January, the father told the television station he suspected the child might have been gone since April.

Metalwala and Biryukova, a native of Ukraine, had been involved in a bitter custody battle, and Metalwala said he had not seen his children in more than a year.

He said in January that Biryukova's uncle had visited from Ukraine the previous April, and may have taken the child home with him at his wife's request.
