Engine failure forces plane to land at SFO

SAN FRANCISCO, March 19 (UPI) -- Engine failure forced a Hawaii-bound plane from Oakland, Calif., to turn around and land at San Francisco airport, officials said.

Hawaiian Airlines Flight 47 -- a two-engine Boeing 767-300 -- took off from Oakland at 9:45 a.m. Sunday and was scheduled to land in Honolulu at 12:20 p.m., the Contra Costa Times reported.

However, the plane's left engine failed, forcing it to turn around and land at San Francisco International Airport at 11:20 a.m., SFO duty manager Chris Davison said.

Passengers were shuttled back to Oakland, Davison said.
