MIAMI, March 13 (UPI) -- A Florida education panel has ruled that a former porn actor can pursue a teaching certificate and doesn't have to wait five years.
Shawn Loftis, 36, was fired from his job as a Miami-Dade Public School teacher last year after administrators found out he had worked in the adult film industry, The Miami Herald reported.
After being fired, Loftis said the state told him he had to wait five years before earning a teaching certificate.
On Monday, Florida's Education Practices Commission said he can pursue teaching certification with conditions that will be issued in the next several weeks
Loftis, who holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Miami, said he will try to get his job back.
"Now I'm going to fight to be reinstated because the state has determined that I'm allowed to teach," Loftis said. "Pornography is not against the law."
