Police: Alleged stalker arranged wedding

SEATTLE, March 8 (UPI) -- A suburban Seattle woman has been charged with stalking a man to the point where she ordered a wedding ring and had the store send him the bill.

Madeline Ann Desmet, 64, also arranged for a ceremony in Seattle Municipal Court, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.

Investigators say Desmet, a real estate agent in Des Moines, south of Seattle, began pursuing the man after she met him at church in 2010, The Seattle Times reported. She was eventually banned from church property.

Detectives say Desmet violated a court order that she keep away from the man and his children. She was arrested in late February and has since been released on bail.

The man reported to police that he had gotten a call from the municipal court about his supposed wedding plans. A jeweler got in touch about paying for the ring.

(The man) is scared of Desmet. He believes that she is delusional with mental health issues," Seattle Police Detective Nathan Janes said in a report. "Because of her behavior towards him and his beliefs about her mental stability, he is afraid that sooner or later she will snap; her 'love' for him will turn to violent."
