CHICAGO, March 8 (UPI) -- A Chicago man was arrested for punching his dog in the eyes because it would not stop barking, police say.
Police responded to an animal abuse complaint on the North Side where they found a 6-month old puppy cowering in a puddle of its own urine in the home of Taj Oatis.
Oatis, 32, admitted to police he punched the dog to discipline it for barking too much. Police found the dog had broken blood vessels around the eyes and blood around its pupils, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Police found Oatis, a self-admitted gang member, had an outstanding traffic warrant and cannot own a dog because he is a convicted felon. He was charged with cruelty to animals and possession of certain dogs by a felon.
