MYSTIC, Conn., March 8 (UPI) -- The Internal Revenue Service seized over $60,000 from the owners of Mystic Pizza after a money-laundering investigation, The (New London, Conn.) Day reported.
The U.S. Treasury Department seized the assets from the account of John, George and Christos Zelepos, identified in an IRS notice published in The Day earlier in the week. The family owns Mystic Pizza LLC, operator of two Connecticut restaurants, and the Mystic Pizza Food Co., which sells frozen pizza.
The IRS did not offer additional information, but the legal notice referred to a statute that concerns money laundering.
The restaurant achieved fame when MGM released the film "Mystic Pizza" in 1988, which starred the then-unknown actress Julia Roberts.
