WASHINGTON, March 1 (UPI) -- A Gallup poll shows Republicans are more enthusiastic than Democrats about taking to the polls in the November general election.

The poll found 53 percent of Republican voters say they are "more enthusiastic about voting" this year, while only 45 percent of Democrats feel the same.

As Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum battle it out for the Republican presidential nomination, fewer Democratic voters are excited to return to the polling places, as opposed to February 2008, when Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama grappled for their party's nomination and 79 percent of Democratic voters were excited to vote.

Gallup surveyed a random sample of 1,014 adults over the age of 18 via telephone Feb. 16-19. The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
