ROME, Ga., Feb. 23 (UPI) -- A storm authorities said likely was a tornado damaged at least 50 homes in north Georgia, an official said, while forecasters warned of more possible storms.
In one possible storm-related death, Floyd County police Sgt. Dan Logan said a woman in her 70s is believed to have suffered a heart attack when the storm blew the roof off her house, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Scotty Hancock, Floyd County Emergency Management Agency director, told radio stations 50-100 homes were damaged by the storm, which tore through the county between 9:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, the Journal-Constitution said. What he believes was a tornado left a path of destruction stretching nearly 2 miles, Hancock said.
Forecasters warned more storms could pass through north Georgia late Thursday night and early Friday.
