Mom accused of drowning daughters

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A 5-year-old girl whose mother is accused of drowning her little sister has died in Los Angeles, police said.

The young girl, named Marian, was taken off life support Tuesday after her organs were donated, a week after her mother allegedly tried to drown her and her 1-year-old sister Lindsay, the Los Angeles Times reported. The woman's husband was out buying juice and milk when the incident occurred.

Lorna Valle, 32, was arrested last week and held on $1.5 million on charges of murder and attempted murder. Valle is believed to have been battling mental illness or depression, the newspaper said.
