FORT SMITH, Ark., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Bail was set at $1 million cash Wednesday for a convicted rapist accused of killing a 16-year-old Arkansas girl.

Lloyd Jones, 36, of Lavaca, Ark., appeared for his arraignment via a video link from the Sebastian County jail, KFSM-TV, Fort Smith, reported. He entered a not guilty plea.

The body of Angela Allen was identified Tuesday. Her remains were found Friday in a barrel buried in Lavaca on property owned by Jones' family.

Allen, a Van Buren resident, was last seen Feb. 10, when she told her grandmother she was going out for a walk. Her family reported her missing on Feb. 11.

Investigators say Jones and Allen met on line and had been exchanging text messages. According to an affidavit, Jones said he met Allen the night she disappeared and the two went to an area known as Muddy Bottoms. He said he got angry when he learned she was only 16 and pushed her hard, leaving her body in the water.

The autopsy determined that Allen died from strangulation and found no water in her lungs, Arkansas state police say.
