CHICAGO, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A Chicago man was arrested for attempting to bring a loaded gun onto an airplane, prosecutors said.
Willie T. Thomas was arrested at the Midway Airport Saturday morning when an X-ray scan of his laptop bag showed he was carrying a loaded handgun, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Thomas, who was traveling to Atlanta to visit family, said he forgot the gun was in his bag when he went to the airport, said his attorney, Michael Schmiege.
He was charged with attempting to board a plane with a weapon and held on $30,000 bond Sunday.
Schmiege said Thomas would not have intentionally brought a loaded gun onto an airplane, because that would be "about the stupidest thing anyone could ever do."
