WASHINGTON, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A third-party committee supporting Mitt Romney spent $14 million on advertising against his Republican U.S. presidential rivals last month, reports indicate.
Documents filed with the Federal Election Commission indicated Restore Our Future, a super political action committee, also raised nearly $7 million during January and began February with more than $16 million in the bank, The New York Times reported Monday.
Although Restore Our Future received donations in amounts as small as $5, nearly $5 million raised by the super-PAC came from 25 individuals and corporations that donated $100,000 to $500,000 each, documents indicated.
Rep. Ron Paul of Texas pulled in $4.5 million in January, a person close to Paul's campaign told The Washington Post.
President Obama's campaign last week said it raised $11.9 million for its campaign and $17.3 million more for the Democratic National Committee in January, the Post said. Obama's campaign committee had $75.9 million in cash on hand.
Campaigns had until midnight Monday to file their January fundraising reports with the FEC.
