KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Presidential candidate Ron Paul rallied his supporters in Kansas City, Mo., this weekend with a rousing speech predicting the end of the social state was near.

Paul took the podium at Union Station Saturday night and warned the crowd the United States could no longer afford such accepted benefits as subsidized housing, healthcare and education, the Kansas City Star said.

"Right now people are waking up to the fact that the government is broke, and they know it's ending," said Paul, who is trailing in the race for the Republican nomination but hopes to bounce back next month in the Missouri Primary and Kansas Caucuses.

"The revolution has arrived," Paul said. "It gives me a great sense of confidence that we are winning the battle."

The Star said Paul's speech repeated his familiar stance of absolute adherence to conservative constitutional interpretations of laws. He also warned of an unholy alliance of government and corporate interests trouncing on individual liberties.

While Paul did not propose any dramatic initiatives should be elected, his supporter appeared energized, the newspaper said.

"After seeing tonight, I feel very sure [the primary turnout] will be huge," said Matthew Heard of Kansas City. "It's starting to have a snowball effect."
