NORMAN, Okla., Feb. 15 (UPI) -- A former University of Oklahoma student in prison in Colorado has admitted a string of sexual assaults around the campus between 1985 and 2001, police allege.

Most of the victims were university coeds, The Oklahoman reported Wednesday. Detectives said Robert Howard Bruce confessed to 14 rapes in Norman, Okla., and in some cases DNA has linked him to the assaults.

Bruce, 50, is serving a 64-year sentence in Colorado for trying to kill a police officer in an effort to keep his DNA out of the national databank.

Detectives allege Bruce committed his first rapes while he was a student in Norman. After he moved, he would return there for new sexual assaults because he knew the area.

He has not been charged yet in Oklahoma.
