President initiates online 'Truth Team'

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- U.S. President Obama's re-election team says it is hitting the streets and online to recruit voters and answer back Republican accusations with a "Truth Team."

The "Truth Team" Web site breaks down the campaign offensive into three objectives, each having their own homepage: AttackWatch.com to bring out facts to defend the president against perceived false attacks, KeepingGOPHonest.com to check the veracity of Republicans' claims about their own records, and KeepingHisWord.com to promote the president's record, CBS News reported Monday.

The campaign's recent endeavor aims to engage 2 million supporters who will spread the online message about the president's record and take it to the streets to help sway independent voters.

"People don't just want to hear from campaign statements or ads -- they want to hear from the family and friends they trust," said Stephanie Cutter, Barack Obama's deputy campaign manager.

In 2008, more than a million people participated in Barack Obama's similar "Fight the Smears" program. Workers with the Obama for America campaign say they hopes that number will double before the Democratic National Convention this fall.
