The ADL praised Panetta for taking "clear and immediate" steps after a picture surfaced showing Marines from Camp Pendleton, Calif., posed in front of a Nazi flag. The picture, taken in Afghanistan in 2010, prompted a further investigation by Marine Commandant Gen. James Amos to determine if other units are using such images, the Los Angeles Times reports.
Abraham Foxman, national director of the ADL, issued a statement after speaking with Amos Friday saying he was pleased Amos promised to "ensure that troops are appropriately sensitized in the future to all the reasons why Nazi imagery and symbols have no place in the U.S. Armed Services."
