Wealthy businessman may face charges

DETROIT, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- The attorney for wealthy Detroit businessman Bob Bashara says he expects his client will soon be charged in his wife's slaying.

Attorney David Griem told The Detroit News he is concerned authorities have struck a plea deal with alleged accomplice handyman Joseph Getz.

Getz was released from custody after spending more than 80 hours with investigators looking into the strangulation of Jane Bashara at her Grosse Point Park, Mich., home on Jan. 24, the News reported Wednesday.

A source said Getz, who may have a learning disability, told investigators he killed Jane Bashara at the request of her husband, the Detroit Free Press reported.

The source said he was paid less than $2,000 for the hit.

Since his release from custody, Getz has not spoken publicly.

A man who has known Getz since he was a child told the Free Press Getz is someone who could be easily manipulated.

"He could be coerced, tricked, maybe he wouldn't catch on to certain things right away," said Gary Thompson, 70.
