Poll: Majority disapprove of Ohio's Kasich

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Ohio Republican Gov. John Kasich has a 53 percent disapproval rating among the state's voters, a Public Policy Polling survey released Wednesday indicated.

Thirty-three percent of Ohio voters said they approved of the job Kasich has done leading their state, results released by the Raleigh, N.C., polling agency showed.

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, fared worse than Kasich, PPP said, with only 28 percent of voters saying they approved of his job performance and 54 percent saying they disapproved.

"Ohio voters sent John Kasich a strong message in November by repealing Senate Bill 5 [that would have restricted collective bargaining] and his numbers haven't improved any since then," said Dean Debnam, president of Democratic Party-affiliated polling firm. "He remains one of the least popular governors in the country and that could help Democratic prospects in the state this fall."

Results are based on telephone surveys of 820 Ohio voters on Jan. 28-29. The margin of error is 3.4 percentage points.
