GILLESPIE, Ill., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- An Illinois man was charged after his 3-month-old daughter choked or suffocated on a baby wipe put in her mouth and died, police report.

Richard C. Morgan of Gillespie was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of his daughter Nevach, and indicted Monday by a grand jury in Macoupin County, Illinois.

Asked about the incident by the Springfield State Journal-Register, Master Sgt. Dave Wasmuth of the Illinois State Police said he "didn't know how to comment" on why a baby wipe would be put into an infant's mouth.

The girl was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield, near St. Louis, in November. Hospital authorities contacted the police, and an investigation was initiated by the Gillespie Police Department and the Illinois State Police.

Morgan was jailed Monday on $100,000 bail.
