OREGON CITY, Ore., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- The body of a missing climber was found Tuesday morning on a ledge on Mount Hood in Oregon, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said.
In a news release, deputies said Jared Townsley's body was located at about 9,200 feet above sea level at the foot of a line of cliffs. Townsley appeared to have been killed by a long fall.
Once the body is recovered, the state medical examiner will determine the cause of death, the sheriff's office said.
Townsley, 32, of Tigard, Ore., left Timberline Lodge, which is almost 6,000 feet above sea level, Sunday night, apparently planning to climb to the summit of Mount Hood, which is about 11,240 feet, and return to the lodge Monday morning, The Oregonian reported. His car was found in the Timberline lot.
His brother reported Townsley was overdue Monday, and a search began.
Townsley was described as an experienced climber.
