Florida plumber unearths human remains

WINTER GARDEN, Fla., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Archaeologists have joined the investigation into the discovery of three human skulls during a swimming pool installation in Florida, authorities said.

A plumber discovered a partial skull at a home in the Carriage Pointer subdivision of Winter Garden and called authorities, who located two more during their own search, ABC News reported.

No other bones were found, ruling out the possibility of a cemetery site, but police found a nearby purse or bag containing a note from 1978, suggesting one or more of the skulls may have been present for 30 years.

Winter Garden police checked records to try to determine whether missing persons were reported during that year, but the possibility was ruled out, police Lt. Keith Ralston said.

The remains may have been lodged as deep as 10 to 15 feet, and were moved while the ground was leveled for the subdivision.

A migrant worker camp was located near the area until the 1980s.

"They could have had a small burial ground there, if they stayed there throughout the year," Rachel Wentz, a biological archaeologist, told WFTV-TV, Orlando.

Police said further archaeological study would be required. The skulls were taken to a crime lab for analysis.
