TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Florida A&M University has canceled summer band camp and plans to suspend other student clubs while it comes up with an anti-hazing plan.

Breyon Love, head of the Student Government Association, said he supports the decision by James Ammons, president of the Tallahassee university, CNN reported.

"Our top priority is the health, safety and well being of students," Ammons said. "We are convening a panel of experts and outstanding thinkers to provide advice and recommendations on the operation of student organizations. Before we enter into a new student intake process, we should have the benefit of the work coming from the committees and the investigations."

Police are investigating the death of Robert Champion, a drum major who collapsed while the band was in Orlando. Some students have said he was subjected to a hazing ritual that involved running a gauntlet of other students while getting from the front to the back of a bus.

Four band members have been charged with another alleged hazing incident.
