8 sea lions shot to death in Wash. state

SEATTLE, Jan. 28 (UPI) -- At least eight sea lions were found shot to death in Washington state's Puget Sound in recent weeks, wildlife officials say.

Seven sea lion carcasses were found on the Nisqually River and the eighth was found Monday on West Seattle's Lincoln Park beach, Northwest Cable News reported Friday.

Authorities don't know who shot the animals.

The penalty for poaching a sea lion ranges from fines to jail time.
