WASHINGTON, Jan. 27 (UPI) -- Most voters say they think wealthy Americans should pay 30 percent of their income in federal income taxes, a Rasmussen Reports poll released Friday indicated.

Fifty-five percent of likely U.S. voters said they favored President Obama's proposal for taxing the wealthy at 30 percent, outlined in his State of the Union address Tuesday, results indicated. Thirty-two percent said they opposed the requirement and 13 percent said they were undecided.

Of those saying they favored Obama's proposal, most said 30 percent was about as high as they wanted to go, Rasmussen said.

Results are based on a nationwide telephone survey of 1,000 likely voters conducted Wednesday and Thursday. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
