LA HABRA, Calif., Jan. 26 (UPI) -- The eight children of La Habra, Calif., "Octomom" Nadya Suleman celebrated their third birthday Thursday.

Suleman's octuplets -- Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Josiah, Jeremiah and Makai -- were born Jan. 26, 2009, amid a wave of controversy. Their birth was the second live birth of octuplets in the United States, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Last year, Dr. Michael Kamrava, Suleman's Beverly Hills fertility specialist, lost his medical license when the state medical board ruled he had violated professional standards in implanting Suleman with 12 embryos.

Suleman, who had six other children by the time the octuplets were born, has since fallen on financial hard times. She tried to capitalize on her celebrity, doing everything from starring in a reality TV show to working as a fitness trainer.

She estimates the cost of food, clothing and school for all 14 children to be $15,000 a month. She recently told Dr. Drew Pinksy in an interview she is planning a short-sale of her house to avoid foreclosure.
