NASHVILLE, Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was detained Monday by the Transportation Security Administration in Nashville after he refused a full-body pat-down, his office said.

"Just got a call from @senrandpaul. He's currently being detained by TSA in Nashville," Moria Bagley, the senator's communications director, posted on her Twitter page.

She told Politico she spoke with Paul and he was "being detained indefinitely. The image scan went off; he refused [the] pat-down."

Paul had been traveling when he was detained. His Twitter page indicated Paul was to speak at a March for Life event in Washington Monday.

On his Twitter page, Rep. Ron Paul of Texas and a Republican presidential nominee, posted, "My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full-body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming."
