MERCED, Calif., Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Officials at California's Yosemite National Park said Saturday a ranger found an unidentified body in the Merced River below Vernal Falls this week.

Park spokesman Scott Gediman said the body was found Tuesday and is with the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office awaiting an autopsy, The Merced Sun-Star reported.

Three people were believed to have died when they were swept over Vernal Falls in July. One of those bodies has since been recovered.

Park spokesperson Kari Cobb told the newspaper 20 people have died in the park in the past year, with seven of those deaths determined to be from natural causes.
