Police spokesman Spencer Pryor said the officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries when he was shot twice about 3 a.m. at the El Cheapo Gas Station after responding to a report of a theft at a residence, the newspaper said.

The shooting occurred when the officer approached an individual at the service station who matched the description of the robber, Pryor said. The suspect immediately opened fire on the officer, who did not fire his weapon, Pryor said.

The names of the officer and suspects had not been released.
