NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- A New York City cab driver is accused of raping and robbing a passenger at knife point, police said.

Gurmeet Singh, 40, of New York's Queens borough, was arrested Monday night and charged in the May attack after police matched his DNA to forensic evidence, the New York Daily News reported.

Singh was charged with rape, robbery, assault, menacing and sex abuse for allegedly attacking a 26-year-old woman in the back of a yellow cab, stealing the victim's cellphone and $20 cash, and then pushing her out of the cab before speeding off.

Police caught Singh after a second woman reported being raped by a cab driver on Sept. 23. The New York Post said the woman provided police with partial identification of the cab's plate or medallion number.

Singh, who had no prior arrests, is considered a suspect but has not been charged in the second attack, police sources told the Post.
