WATERVILLE, Maine, Jan. 9 (UPI) -- Missing Maine toddler Ayla Reynolds' grandmother, Phoebe DiPietro, changing her earlier public comments, said she was not home the night the girl disappeared.

In her initial public statements, she indicated she was among adults in the Waterville home where the baby had been.

She said police were aware of her whereabouts from the start of the investigation.

DiPietro said she did not originally disclose the information publicly under police instruction.

"Law enforcement explained to us that, if we discuss details of this case, what happens is they get tips they can't prioritize ..., she told CNN.

"I'd give everything I owned if we could have her back."
