GARDEN GROVE, Calif., Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A Garden Grove, Calif., woman was indicted for torture and mayhem for allegedly tying her husband to their bed and cutting off his penis, officials said.

Catherine Kieu, 48, was indicted by an Orange County grand jury Thursday, KTLA-TV, Los Angeles, reported.

Prosecutors say Kieu drugged her 60-year-old husband's dinner July 11, then tied him to the bed, and cut off his penis and threw it in the garbage disposal.

Kieu then called 911 and told responding officers her husband "deserved it."

Kieu's husband, whose name was not reported, was treated and released from the University of California Irvine Medical Center. Doctors were unable to reattach his penis.

Police said they believe Kieu was upset with her husband who wanted to file for divorce after 16 months of marriage.

Kieu is being held in jail on $1 million bail pending her Monday arraignment, KTLA-TV reported.

If convicted, Kieu faces a possible sentence of life in prison.
