CHICAGO, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- A baggage handler at O'Hare International Airport has been accused of stealing a Chicago police officer's gun from his checked luggage, officials said.

Abdoulaye Barry, 23, was arrested Wednesday and charged with unlawful use of a weapon, aggravated concealment of a weapon, possession of ammunition without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification card and failure to possess a FOID card, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police said they stopped Barry for an interview Wednesday in Chicago after they saw him notice patrol officers and then turn around and change directions. Police said they found an officer's gun in a Walgreens bag in Barry's front pants pocket, police said.

After running the serial number on the gun, police found it belonged to a Chicago police officer who reported the gun missing from luggage that had been checked.

Barry was expected to appear in court Friday.
