Trump could be on Texas ballot

AUSTIN, Texas, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- A lawyer for Donald Trump said the reality TV host is flattered supporters have filed paperwork to allow him to get him on Texas' November presidential ballot.

Officials of the Make America Great Again Party filed documents that could result in Trump being included on the ballot, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Wednesday.

The filing alone will not put Trump on the ballot. Citing the Texas secretary of state's Web site, the newspaper said Trump -- or perhaps another candidate -- would have to file an application with the party by Feb. 1, and the party would have to gather 49,799 signatures to get on the ballot as the Make America Great Again nominee.

A lawyer for Trump, Michael Cohen, told the newspaper the real estate developer was "obviously flattered" -- although he did not know the paperwork was being filed and had not requested it be done.

Cohen said Trump will not decide until his NBC show "The Apprentice" finished its current season whether he will run for president.
