Huntsman firm listed as tax delinquent

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The family company of Republican U.S. presidential hopeful Jon Huntsman has failed to pay its property taxes in a timely manner, a delinquency list shows.

The revelation comes a week before the New Hampshire primary, where the former Utah governor and U.S. diplomat is on the ballot, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Wednesday. Huntsman, whose campaign so far has failed to make much of a splash, did not compete in Tuesday night's Iowa caucuses.

Another prominent Utah Republican, Dan Liljenquist, was also listed as delinquent. Liljenquist recently resigned from the state Senate and is said to be planning a run against veteran U.S. Sen. Orrin Hatch in the Republican primary.

Liljenquist described his failure to pay the tax on his home in Bountiful as an "oversight." The same word was used by an officer at the Huntsman Corp.

The Huntsman Corp. owes $195,100 to Salt Lake County for taxes and penalties, the Tribune reported. The former governor has not held a position with the company for years, although his father is the founder and chairman.
