DETROIT, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- The manager of a Detroit nightclub was shot and killed while trying to break up an altercation between customers on New Year's Day, police said.

LaMark Billingslea, 39, the manager of HR's Lounge, was the son of Motown performer Joe Billingslea, who co-founded the Contours singing group, The Detroit News reported.

Police said LaMark Billingslea was shot in the neck around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Two women were also injured. He died at a local hospital.

No arrests have been made.

Joe Billingslea's Facebook page was filled Monday with condolences, the newspaper said. His group was best known for their Billboard hit "Do You Love Me."
