Teen raped, beaten outside Chicago concert

CHICAGO, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old woman, shut out of a New Year's Eve concert, was allegedly raped and beaten by six assailants outside Chicago's Congress Theater, police say.

The young woman was found beaten, naked and bleeding near the Congress in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood by a theater employee Saturday night, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

The employee, who asked that his name not be used, said the woman was turned away from the concert because she did not have an identification card.

He said he saw her about 20 minutes later with a group of six youths. The employee said he was approached by a few of them who told him there was a naked girl on the sidewalk.

When the employee saw the victim, he called out to a security guard to apprehend the teens.

Three of the teens were arrested as suspects but were released Sunday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Police said they were waiting for the results of DNA evidence.

The victim was in critical condition at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center but a detective working on the case said it appeared she "is going to be fine."

Neighborhood resident Danny Medina, 33, who has lived in Logan Square for 20 years, said the incident was the most violent he had seen in the area.

"You can still see the blood," he said. "It's very sad."
