Plane tires catch fire during takeoff

SACRAMENTO, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- No injuries were reported when a Southwest Airlines plane aborted takeoff Tuesday after two tires caught fire on a California airport runway, officials said.

The accident occurred on the 6:05 p.m. departure of Flight 2287 from Sacramento International Airport to Seattle, an airline spokeswoman said. An emergency crew extinguished the blaze, The Sacramento Bee reported.

The 130 passengers on board the plane were safely taken off. The spokeswoman said they would be able to proceed to Seattle on a later flight.

An airport spokeswoman said one runway was closed but other flights were not delayed.
