FORT EDWARD, N.Y., Dec. 28 (UPI) -- People in two New York communities were allowed back in their homes Wednesday, the day after a gasoline leak triggered sewer line explosions, police said.

No one was injured by the Tuesday night sewer system blasts that sent manhole covers flying into the air and prompted authorities to evacuate some residents of the northeastern New York towns of Fort Edward and Hudson Falls as a precautionary measure, the Albany Union Times reported. A highway also was blockaded.

Hudson Falls police said the underground explosions were fueled by about 100 gallons of gasoline that flowed from a pump at a convenience store, the newspaper said.
